| About the Book:
|
| Control Systems is a subject which is part of the curriculum in various disciplines – Physics, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and so on. Whether we control a gun-director servo, a voltage level or a temperature the underlying principle is the same – ‘Feedback Control!’ there may be more than one variable to control and so also there would be several inputs and disturbances which have to be taken into account. The several parts of a control system are regarded as blocks, irrespective of their physical size and each such block is defined by the mathematical relationship between its input and output. Knowing this transfer function, the control aspects are studied. It is possible to compensate the system with additional ‘networks’ or controllers to provide a stable error-free system with a fast-acting control behaviour. There are several models to do these. This book describes all of these, both for continuous time control and discrete-time control. Components involving nonlinearity are also studied using the phase plane method.
The various components of a Control System based on electrical, mechanical and other parts are considered in two distinct chapters. Process control is dealt with in yet another chapter and the presently popular fuzzy logic control is given with methods and examples.
In all chapters, practice exercises with MATLAB are included. |
