S. Nagabhushana :- obtained his baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from the Mysore University, and PhD in physics from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His research career, which spanned over four decades at the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), Bangalore, was focused on instrumentation and data systems. He retired as the head of the Aerospace Electronics and Systems Division at NAL. He also served as professor and head of Instrumentation Technology, first at R.N. Shetty Institute of Technology, Bangalore and then at Bangalore Institute of Technology, Bangalore. He was a fellow of the Aeronautical Society of India.N. Sathyanarayana :- "N. Satyanarayana obtained his Bachelor Degree from Bangalore University and Masters in Technology in Instrumentation and Controls from Calicut Regional Engineering College. He has taught for more than 20 years a wide range of subjects including Optical Instrumentation. This book contains two parts. Part-I deals with lasers and Part-II deals with optical instrumentation.
The basics of laser has been given in an easy, understandable and very lucid manner. For a beginner thse fundamentals will be very much useful. The derivation of Einstein's coefficients, the various types of lasers has been covered in depth. I really appreciate the way and which the diagrams has been presented with high sharp images with perfect marking.
The detailed analysis of the characteristics of lasers has been given very nicely. All the topics on characteristics has been covered.
Regarding the applications on lasers both part-I &part-II give wide application on lasers in various fields.
The second part of the book which covers the optoelectronic components like detectors and sources has been covered very well. Chapters 6-10 covers in depth subject on Fibers, Especially the fiber optic sensors has been covered very well.
