Plant Tissue Culture forms an integral basis of the present day biotechnology. Plant Tissue Culture: Practices and New Experimental Protocols is being brought out to fill the existing gap in the available literature on plant tissue culture, especially focusing on the aspects of practical procedures and protocols of tissue culture. This book contains important experimental techniques and gives guidance on carrying out hands-on experiences. It has been designed in a simple way, giving all the necessary procedures as a general guideline and also necessary tips to maneuver any problem encountered. These tips are based on the first hand experiences of the author while teaching and researching the techniques of plant tissue culture. A unique feature of this book is the inclusion of several techniques describing the actual protocols experimented and developed with different plant species by different scientists. A substantial number of original colored plates including fluorescence photographs standout the book. This pioneering work is valuable for the students who are looking for fresh outlook and search.

  • Chapters deals with various technologies in plat tissue culture like meristem culture, axillary branching, protoplast culture and haploid production, and with the technological aspects.
  • The book focuses on practical procedures and protocols of tissue culture.
  • A detailed glossary, and the formula for converting molar solutions to milligrams/litre and vice versa is provides at the end of the book.
  • A lot of colour pictures and line diagrams have been included in the book.

B N Sathyanarayana :- B.N. Sathyanarayana, an accomplished Professor
and Researcher in the field of Biotechnology, more
specifically Plant Tissue Culture, is a distinguished
faculty of the Division of Horticulture at the
University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. He
has been serving the University over two and a half
decades. Dr. Sathyanarayana, on an award of
Commonwealth Staff Scholarship, obtained his Ph.D.
degree from the prestigious University of London and
is an alumnus of the well-known Imperial College,
On his return from UK with a Ph.D. degree in the
field of Plant Tissue Culture, he established a state of
the art Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory during 1998,
then considered one of the best in the country at the
University level. He has guided nine Ph.D. students
and as many M.Sc. students, and at present guiding
three Ph.D. students. Apart from this, literally a few
hundred students of postgraduate and undergraduate
students of subjects such as Biotechnology, Botany,
Microbiology and Biochemistry hailing from different
States of the country have been trained in the field of
Plant Tissue Culture under his guidance in the
He has attended many International Seminars
including VII World Conference on Plant Tissue
Culture held at Amsterdam, Netherlands, during 1990.
He has coauthored few books on the subject of
horticulture. He has published many scientific papers
on the subject of Plant Tissue Culture in peer reviewed
National and International Journals of repute. Apart
from being an executive member of many Scientific
Societies, he had served on the technical expert panel
in developing Biotechnology Centre of the Karnataka
State Department of Horticulture.

Dalia B. Verghese :- Dalia B. Varghese obtained her bachelorÕs degree
from Kerala Agricultural University and her Masters
from the University of Agricultural Sciences,
Dharwad, Karnataka. She has received several gold
medals and accolades for her academic excellence
throughout her academic career. She obtained her
Ph.D. in Horticulture under the guidance of
Dr. B.N. Sathyanarayana in Horticulture from the
University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. Her
research is mainly focused on various aspects of in
vitro regeneration and crop improvement in several
plant spElectronics\Communication and Instrumentation Engineerings. She is currently pursuing post-doctoral
research at School of Biological and Conservations
Sciences, University of Kwa Zulu Natal, Durban,
South Africa, working on cryopreservation of tropical
recalcitrant seeded spElectronics\Communication and Instrumentation Engineerings.
